The major vendors, like WEST, MAAS, Progressive Epoxy Polymers, purchase raw epoxy chemicals from the major chemical companies and then formulate (modify and improve) them to provide desired properties. The low end guys simply purchase the raw epoxy chemicals and repackage them for consumer sales. More on this - CLICK HERE - formulated vs 'barrel to jug' marine epoxy .
Prices and formulated vs. raw resin issues aside, how do you compare different brands of marine epoxy? Differences include certain chemicals in the resin, thickness, mix ratio and if the epoxy is a blushing or non-blushing marine epoxy. Then there is the vendor support issue. I've heard stories of one discount vendor of cheap marine epoxy (a repackager of course) that sometimes doesn't ship out product for a week or two. We suspect it is a 'part time business' that takes second place to the primary job and the family. Over the last several years, there has been a rapid growth of on-line "all in one" garage epoxy floor kits. The kits include epoxy, colored chips, a paint roller, etc. The epoxy might be a traditional high solids or solvent free epoxy or a more simple, water based epoxy. The vendors pretty much gloss over this important difference. They tend to also make wild claims about warranty issues when in fact they cannot evaluate the suitability of your floor for an epoxy topcoat or your ability to do the job correctly with zero experience. Their goal is to sell you a product by saying what you want to hear and then having lots of hidden disclaimers.

Epoxy "Stab Brush" -- "Regular Brush"
Use with products on this page
buy separately or include with your order
STAB BRUSH - 3 inch wide with 3/4 inch bristles. Most epoxies are too thick for a regular brush. Stab brushes allow you to push and move the epoxy around and 'stab' or poke it into cracks, voids, and corners
|REGULAR BRUSH - 2 inch wide and extra thick with synthetic bristles. Use with varnish, paints and thin epoxies. Priced for disposable use.|
